My Mother Wants to Give the Apartment and Money My Father Left Me to Her Own Son!

Published

on

My parents didnt stay together for very long. When I was four, my father left home one day and never returned. It was an accident He did, however, leave behind a handful of childhood photos of us together and a sizable sum in the bank under my name, which steadily grew with each passing year.
A few years later, my mother remarried and gave birth to my younger brother. From then on, I ended up serving as a sort of maid for my stepfather and mother, as well as acting as a live-in babysitter for my brother.
It used to break my heart to watch my mother with my little brother. Id see the way she showered him with affectionkissing him goodnight, cuddling him, reading bedtime stories, buying him toys and the latest clothes.
My stepfather doted on his only son, too. No one showed me any love. But then things became even worse. Arguments began breaking out between my mother and stepfather, he turned to drink, and the rows became regular. More often than not, I bore the brunt of their anger, since I wasnt loved like my brother was. After a few years, they divorced.
Later, I left home to attend university in a different city, leaving my brother and mother in my late fathers flat. I rarely came home, as I was busy with my studies and working a part-time job to support myself.
Much later, when I finally returned, I found strangersa group of young menliving in the flat, and my mother was sleeping on the sofa in the kitchen. The strangers turned out to be my brothers friends. I tried to talk to them about it, but things only grew worse. The next morning, they woke me up and pressured me to go to the bank and withdraw the savings my father had left for me, because my younger brother had lost a huge amount of money playing cards.
It felt just like being a little girl againonly ever told what to do and scolded if I hesitated.
The strange thing is, I had come home to share some wonderful news with my family: I was expecting a baby and thought perhaps we could mend our strained bonds But things took a different turn. I told them to gather their things, as from that moment theyd have to go and live with Gran in the countryside. The flat belonged to me, and Id had enough of everyone else crowding in.
My mother and brother just laughed, but it only confirmed that Id made the right choice. I rang the police, who helped my relatives pack up and leave the flat. Afterward, my fiancé and I changed the locks and began making arrangements to sell the flat and buy a new home for our family in another city. I also changed my bank accounts, as my mother had already attempted to access my funds.
Im certain my father would have approved of my decisionhe always wanted what was best for me. What Ive learned is that sometimes you must put yourself and your future first, especially when others wont respect your boundaries.
